Jay Stott, founder and director of Purpose Driven Baseball. Founded in memory of former Tarheel and professional player Johnnie Stott, PDB seeks to equip young men not only for the sport of baseball, but also for life with PURPOSE. Jay coaches PD teams locally and has conducted camps and clinics in the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Austria and Slovakia. Jay has served USA Baseball as a coach for several NTIS events and was a guest coach/speaker for their recent development program. Jay is a former pitcher with experience at the D1 level as a former UNCW Seahawk.
Michael Griffin from Nanaimo, BC, Canada joins the coaching staff of Purpose Driven Baseball having just completed a contract with Major League Baseball as the head coach of the MLB development center of China and MLB envoy Asia (Japan, Taiwan, Korea). In 2002, as the leading hitter for Canada’s Junior National Team, Mike was on the fast track for the MLB draft but was sidelined due to a freak injury. After 18 months rehab, he landed at the University of Hawaii. Mike also played on the Athletes in Action Summer Travel team that took him to Europe where he began his impressive coaching resume. Mike is currently the Head coach for the Senior Czech National team and baseball development director for Purpose Driven Baseball and Pro5 Academy.
Former NCSU star and MLB 1st round pick, Corey Lee played with Rangers and Angels, making a MLB debut with the Rangers. Lee also spent time playing in Japan and has joined Purpose Driven Baseball on several mission trips and currently is a key volunteer with the baseball organization. Corey was an All-Star at the A, AA, & AAA levels of professional baseball. Corey was recently named the pitching coach for the Senior Czech National Team. He endured multiple arm surgery’s and brings a great perspective to baseball and life as he impacts young players in the community and around the world.
Scott Emerson is the Bullpen coach for the Oakland A’s. He is a consultant for PD Baseball and is our lead pitching instructor for our camps and clinics here in the US and around the world. Scott has coached over 100 pitchers who have moved on to pitch in the Major Leagues.
Ray Stott began his coaching career as high school coach in Clayton and head coach for the Johnston County Legion program in the early 90’s. Ray brings extensive coaching and playing experience to the PD team of coaches. He was a part of the UNC Tarheel program as a player and student volunteer in the mid 80’s and will always bleed Tarheel blue. Ray has traveled on several occasions with Purpose Driven Baseball to Europe on mission trips and is co-founder of the organization.

NC State: As a senior in 2012 Mathews helped lead the Wolfpack to win the Raleigh-Regional and advance to the NCAA Super-Regionals. After winning the Raleigh-Regional MVP, Mathews was 1st the ACC in homeruns and 10th in the nation with 17. He was 2nd in the ACC in RBI’s and 24th in the country with 62. He was also 2nd in the ACC and 20th in the country at .650. He was a first team All-Conference player for the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Mathews was named Louisville Slugger’s National Player of the Week and the ACC Player of the Week after smashing four home runs, including two in the Pack’s 10-5 win over number 1 ranked Florida State. He also had a 21 game hitting streak during the season, which was the longest in the ACC for the year. Was selected in the 2012 MLB draft by the Oakland Athletics.
Summer league : Had a huge summer for the Wilson Tobs of the Coastal Plain League in 2011, batting .283 with 15 home runs, 41 RBIs and 11 stolen bases • Led the league in home runs, was third in total bases (111) and fourth in RBIs • Set Wilson franchise records for home runs and RBIs.
